Court of Appeals sentenced three Christian citizens to prison and fines

Breathing in Confinement: On Sunday, May 29, 2022, the Court of Appeals in Tehran upheld the sentences of three Christian citizens, Anoushavan Avadian, Abbas Souri and Maryam Mohammadi. They had previously been sentenced to 10 years in prison, deprivation from social rights, and ban on leaving the country.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, based on a lawsuit issued by the Court of Appeals in Tehran, Anoushavan Avadian was charged with “forming and running an illegal group with the intention of disrupting the country’s security.” He was sentenced to 10 years in prison as well as ten years of deprivation from social rights. Abbas Souri and Maryam Mohammadi were also fined 6 million tomans each for “membership in illegal groups,” banned from leaving the country as well as living in Tehran and neighboring provinces for two years.
It should be noted that the initial verdict against these citizens had been issued on April 11, 2022, by the Revolutionary Court of Tehran.
These citizens had been arrested on August 22, 2021, by the agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Tehran.
