Court of Appeals sentenced Rasoul Bodaghi to five years in prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Rasoul Bodaghi, a teacher and activist of the Teachers’ Union of Iran, imprisoned in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, was sentenced to five years in prison by the Court of Appeals in Tehran.
According to Breathing in Confinement, quoting Mr. Bodaghi’s lawyer, Ramin Safarnia, Rasoul Bodaghi has been sentenced to 5 years in prison, a two-year ban from leaving the country, and a two-year ban from residing in Tehran and all neighboring provinces. The sentence has been upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal. According to Mr. Safarnia, with the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, 4 years of this sentence is applicable to Mr. Bodaghi.
It is worth mentioning that Rasoul Bodaghi, a teacher and activist of the Teachers’ Union of Iran, was arrested in security agents’ raid on his home on April 30, 2022, and transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison under the control of the Ministry of Intelligence.
On April 4, 2022, in a trial held in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Afshari, Rasoul Bodaghi was sentenced to a total of five years in prison, two years ban on leaving the country, and two years ban from residing in Tehran and all neighboring provinces.
Mr. Bodaghi had been arrested on December 11, 2021, by the agents of the Ministry of Intelligence at his home in Islamshahr, and transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison. He was released on bail on December 21, 2021, after completing his interrogation.
