Court of Appeals sentenced Hasti Amiri to one year in prison

Breathing in Confinement: Hasti Amiri, a student activist at Allameh Tabatabai University, was sentenced by the the Court of Appeals in Tehran to one year in prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in addition to supplementary punishments, Hasti Amiri was sentenced to one year in prison by the Court of Appeals in Tehran on charges of “propaganda activities against the regime”.

This student activist had previously been sentenced by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by Judge Iman Afshari, to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the regime.” Ms. Amiri’s cell phone was also confiscated and as well, according to the ruling, she was banned for two years from membership in political groups and factions, from any activities in social media and beyond, and from participating in student gatherings (excluding mandatory classes). The sentence was recently approved by the Court of Appeals.

 

On January 3, 2022, security agents attempted to arrest Hasti Amiri at her home, but as she was not at home, her family was notified that she was supposed to appear at Branch 2 of the Evin Prison Prosecutor’s Office on January 8.

When Hasti Amiri appeared in Branch 2 of the Evin Prison Prosecutor’s Office, she was notified of the charges of “conspiracy to disrupt national security and propaganda activities against the regime,” for which she was detained for a day and released on bail of 500 million Tomans the next day.
