To serve his prison sentence, Yashar Tohidi arrested and transferred to Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, after appearing in Branch 1 of the Evin Court, Yashar Tohidi, an aerospace student at the Azad University of Tehran, was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve his sentence. Yashar had previously been sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, after appearing in Branch 1 of the Evin Court, Yashar Tohidi, a civil activist and student at the Research and Sciences Department of Azad University in Tehran, was arrested and transferred to prison.

On January 26, 2022, Yashar Tohidi had been sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by Iman Afshari, on charges of “conspiracy and collusion through membership in Marxist groups”. He was also sentenced to 8 months in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the regime.” His sentence was later upheld by the Court of Appeals in Tehran province. With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, a total of 2 years and 9 months of this sentence will be applicable to him.

Mr. Tohidi’s trial was held on January 17, 2022, in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran.

 

On June 23, 2021, following an attack by the intelligence agents of the Revolutionary Guards, Yashar Tohidi was arrested and transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 2A of Evin Prison under the control of this security body for interrogation. He was released from Evin Prison on July 5, 2021, after depositing a bail  of 500 million Tomans awaiting the trial.

On June 10, 2018 also, Yashar Tohidi, had been arrested by the IRGC intelligence agents in front of his father’s home in Tehran. He was then transferred to this security organ’s detention center and later, on July 3. 2018, after completing his interrogations, was released on bail.
