Breathing in Confinement – There is no news about the condition of a Sunni prisoner awaiting execution in Iran who was taken to an unknown location last week after being beaten by prison guards in Iran’s Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj.

According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, Seddigh Mohammadi, a Sunni prisoner of conscience who suffers from psychological illnesses, was subjected to a brutal beating by guards within the prison last week, leaving him with horrific injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack left Seddigh Mohammadi with a wound to his head and severe bruising to his body. He was then taken to an unknown location by prison guards.

Reports suggest the attack took place after the prisoner had complained about the behavior of Hossein Ghadami, the head of section 3 of the prison, as well as prison guards, who had insulted his Sunni religious beliefs.

Concerns for Seddigh Mohammadi’s welfare are growing, with no news about his condition or whereabouts.  He is at risk of execution after his death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in May 2014 and his case was sent to the Office for the Implementation of Sentences.
