After 77 days in detention, Manouchehr Bakhtiari transferred to the Central Penitentiary of Karaj

Breathing in Confinement: After 77 days in detention, Manouchehr Bakhtiari, the father of Pouya Bakhtiari, one of the protesters  killed in the November 2019 uprisings, called his family to let them know that he was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison as well as 2 years and 6 months in exile. Mr. Bakhtiari had been detained for seventy-seven days while his family was unaware of his fate or whereabouts. He eventually, after receiving a prison sentence, was transferred to the Central Penitentiary of Karaj.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, after being sentenced to prison and exile, Manouchehr Bakhtiari was transferred to the Central Penitentiary of Karaj.

Mr. Bakhtiari was arrested on April 29 after being beaten by security forces at his home in Tehran. And since then, for 77 days, he has being held in custody, without being permitted to call or visit his family or even to let them know of his whereabouts.

 

Through a phone call to his family, Manouchehr Bakhtiari said that he had been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to 3 years and 6 months in prison, 2 years and 6 months in exile, as well as a 2-year ban from leaving the country.

 

Earlier, “Breathing in Confinement” reported that since the time of his arrest, Mr. Bakhtiari’s family had been unaware of his fate or whereabouts.

 

Mr. Bakhtiari has also been arrested several times before, along with his family and the families of some of those  killed in the November 2019 uprisings.

 

On April 7, Mr. Bakhtiari, along with some of the family members of those who were killed in the November 2019 uprisings, went to Isfahan to visit the tomb of Sardar Asaad Bakhtiari, where they all were arrested, to be released later.

 

He was also detained by security forces along with some of his family members on December 24, 2019, on the occasion of the 40th day of his son’s death, in a ceremony which had been previously announced to be public. He was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj and was released a month later, on Wednesday night, January 22.
