Death sentence of a Kurdish political prisoner in Sanandaj prison is upheld

Breathing in Confinement: On Thursday, August 7, 2020, the death sentence of Haidar Ghorbani, a political prisoner from Kamyaran, was upheld by Branch 27 of the Supreme Court, and his lawyer was notified of this.
According to Hengaw, the website for human rights, Haidar Ghorbani was arrested in October 2016 along with one of his acquaintances named “Mahmoud Sadeghi”. In January 2020, he was sentenced to death on charges of collaborating and membership in a Kurdish opposition group. And he was notified of his sentence on January 28, 2020.
According to the report, Haidar Ghorbani was also tried in another case, by Branch 1 of the Criminal Court in Kurdistan Province, on charges of “collaborating and assisting in the murder of several members of the Revolutionary Guards in Kamyaran.” According to the verdict, Haidar Ghorbani was sentenced to 18 years and 6 months in prison as well as 200 lashes.
Haidar Ghorbani’s relatives say that under inhuman torture, he was falsely confessed to killing a number of IRGC and Basij members in a video clip on Press TV.
