Sentence of imprisonment, flogging, and paying a fine for Mohammad Emami, a civil activist from Tabriz

Breathing in Confinement: Mohammad Emami, a civil activist who was arrested during a rally in Tabriz in support of the uprisings in Ahwaz, was sentenced to imprisonment, flogging, and paying a fine.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mohammad Emami, a civil activist from Tabriz, was sentenced to 16 months in prison as well as 40 lashes by Branch 113 of the Criminal Court 2 in Tabriz, headed by Judge Shayeq. He was also sentenced to pay a ransom for beating a police officer. The sentence has been suspended for 5 years.
The charges against this civil activist were “intentional assault and wounding of police officer Amir Rafati Esfangareh”, “disobedience to police officers on duty” and “disturbing public order by participating in an illegal gathering and creating commotion and chaos by performing unusual movements”.
The judge of Branch 113 of the Criminal Court in Tabriz sentenced Mohammad Emami for the charges of beating and injuring to:
1- 0.02 full diyat for stitched injury in the middle of the forehead
2- 0.002 full diyat for head swelling
3-0.002 full diyat for swelling of the nasal bridge.
Mr. Emami was also sentenced to 8 months in prison for “disobedience against a government official” under Article 607 and to eight months in prison as well as 40 lashes for “disturbing public order” under Article 618 of the Islamic Penal Code.
Civil activist Mohammad Emami is from East Azarbaijan province and lives in Tabriz. He was arrested on July 24, 2021 in the city of Tabriz by plainclothes officers who refused to present a warrant. Mr. Emami was beaten during his arrest and transferred to the Tabriz Intelligence Detention Center a few hours later, where he was again physically tortured by intelligence agents. One week after his arrest, Mr. Emami was temporarily released from Tabriz Central Prison on 80 million Tomans bail.
Mohammad Emami is a provincial boxing champion.
