Breathing in Confinement: Today, July 5, Sepideh Farhan was granted a leave followed by release from Qarchak prison in Varamin. Ms. Farhan, a civil activist and one of the detainees of the December 2017 uprisings, was arrested on January 1, 2020 and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her two-year sentence.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Monday, July 5, 2021, Sepideh Farhan, after spending a year and five months in prison, was granted a leave leading to release from Qarchak prison in Varamin.

 

This civil activist had been arrested on January 2, 2018, following the nationwide protests in December 2017, and after about a month and a half, was temporarily released from Evin Prison awaiting the court’s decision.

 

She finally, was sentenced to 6 years in prison as well as 74 lashes, at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Ahmadzadeh, on charges of “disturbing public order as well as colluding against national security.” Ms. Farhan appealed the sentence which was later reduced to 2 years in prison at Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals.

 

Spideh Farhan was once sent on leave on April 6, 2020, and returned back to prison on May 10.

 

On December 5, 2020, Ms. Farhan was deported from Evin Prison to Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
