Breathing in Confinement: A 67-year-old prisoner, sentenced to death on the charge of rape, was executed on Monday morning, June 1, in Mashhad Central Prison.
According to Khorasan newspaper, the prisoner was arrested in July 2017 on the charge of raping a 14-year-old girl, his wife’s nephew. He was later sentenced to death, after being tried in Branch 3 of Khorasan Razavi Criminal Court. The sentence was upheld by Branch 13 of the Supreme Court. And as the prisoner’s request for pardon was rejected, he was executed on June 1, 2020.
It is noteworthy that Iran ranks first in the world’s per capita execution.
