Prisoner Executed in Ilam Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Wednesday, 22 July 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on a murder charge and sentenced to death by the judiciary was carried out in Ilam Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Ilam Prison in the early hours of Wednesday, 22 July. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Iraj Ebrahimizadeh.
According to the report, Iraj Ebrahimizadeh, from Ilam, had previously been arrested on a murder charge and sentenced to death. The victim’s family had agreed to grant clemency in exchange for the payment of blood money (diya); however, the required amount could not be raised. His death sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, in Ilam Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
