Death-Row Prisoner Transferred to Solitary Confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 15 August 2026: At least one death-row prisoner, who had previously been arrested on a charge of “murder” and sentenced to death, has been transferred to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison in preparation for the implementation of his sentence.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a death-row prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison this morning, Saturday, 15 August, in preparation for his execution. The prisoner’s identity has been verified by Breathing in Confinement but is being withheld.

According to reports received, the prisoner had previously been arrested in connection with a charge of “murder” and, following judicial proceedings, was sentenced to death.

Efforts to obtain the consent of the victim’s family and prevent the execution have so far been unsuccessful. The transfer of a death-row prisoner to solitary confinement is generally considered one of the steps preceding an execution and increases the risk that the sentence may be carried out imminently. However, until the execution takes place, the sentence may still be halted through legal procedures or by obtaining the consent of the victim’s next of kin.
