Death-Row Prisoner Facing Imminent Execution in Sanandaj Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 15 August 2026: Kaveh Rafoosheh, a prisoner held in Sanandaj Prison who was previously sentenced to death in a case involving a charge of “premeditated murder,” is facing imminent execution.
According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Kaveh Rafoosheh’s family have stated that they have been formally notified of his death sentence and that prison authorities have informed them that the execution is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 18 August, in Sanandaj Prison.
Kaveh Rafoosheh, a resident of Sanandaj, was previously arrested in connection with the killing of an individual named Kianoush Ashrafi and, following judicial proceedings, was sentenced to death.
According to information received, efforts by local community figures, civil society activists, and environmental activists to obtain the consent of the victim’s family and prevent the execution have so far been unsuccessful.
With the date of execution now announced, Kaveh Rafoosheh is at imminent risk of execution, while efforts to secure the consent of the victim’s family remain ongoing.
