Breathing in Confinement, Monday, 17 August 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on a charge of “murdering a security officer” and sentenced to death was carried out in Zahedan Prison.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Zahedan Prison at dawn yesterday, Sunday, 16 August. The prisoner has been identified as Mohammad Afrookhteh.

According to the report, Mohammad (Cheragh) Afrookhteh, 30, a resident of Baldan village, had previously been arrested on a charge of “murdering a security officer” and sentenced to death by the judiciary. His death sentence was carried out at dawn on Sunday, 16 August 2026, in Zahedan Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
