Breathing in Confinement – A death-row prisoner in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj died due to a delay in transfer to hospital and lack of medical treatment.

According to Breathing in Confinement, on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, a prisoner in Ghezel Hesar died after prison officials delayed sending him to hospital. The prisoner, Saeed Karimi, from Harsin, had previously been arrested on a charge of murder and sentenced to death. Reports indicate he suffered a heart attack; despite the seriousness of his condition, authorities delayed and hesitated to transfer him to an outside medical facility, resulting in his death.

This death stems from the denial of access to appropriate medical and psychological care and is yet another clear example of violating prisoners’ right to life and their right to adequate, timely medical services.
