Execution of Mohammad Rezaei Kan-Kat in Khorramabad Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 22 August 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on charges related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death was carried out in Khorramabad Prison.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the death sentence of a prisoner was carried out in Khorramabad Prison at dawn on Saturday, 22 August. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Mohammad Rezaei Kan-Kat. On Thursday, Breathing in Confinement had reported his transfer to solitary confinement and his family’s efforts to prevent his execution.

According to the report, Mohammad Rezaei Kan-Kat, a resident of Nurabad, Delfan, had previously been arrested on charges related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death. He was transferred to solitary confinement on Tuesday, 18 August, in preparation for the implementation of his sentence.

Following his transfer to solitary confinement, his family and relatives gathered outside the Khorramabad Judiciary and Khorramabad Prison on Thursday, 20 August, to protest against his death sentence.

Despite the family’s protest and appeals to halt the execution, Mohammad Rezaei Kan-Kat was executed at dawn on Saturday, 22 August, in Khorramabad Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
