Increase in Number of Prisoners Executed in Ilam Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Friday, 21 August 2026: The death sentences of at least two prisoners, including a woman, who had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death, were carried out in Ilam Prison.
According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners, including a woman, were hanged in Ilam Prison at dawn on Wednesday, 19 August. The prisoners have been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Khodadad Mohammadi and Donya Mohammadi. Breathing in Confinement had previously reported the execution of Donya Mohammadi.
According to the report, Khodadad Mohammadi, a retired teacher, father of five, and resident of Eyvan-e Gharb, was arrested two years ago on a charge of “murdering” his son-in-law and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.
In a separate case, Donya Mohammadi, 20, also from Eyvan-e Gharb, was arrested two years ago at the age of 18 while she was reportedly under pressure to enter into a forced marriage. She was accused of “murdering” her suitor, who was also her paternal cousin, using aluminium phosphide tablets, and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.
Their death sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, in Ilam Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
