Breathing in Confinement, December 16, 2020: On Sunday, December 13, 2020, the head of the Women’s Ward in Qarchak Prison, along with 20 male and female anti-riot guards carrying stun guns and batons, entered Ward 8 of Qarchak Prison, where female political prisoners are being kept. By the order of the head of the prison, they beat the political prisoners. The guards brutally beat Golrokh Ebrahimi and transferred her to Ward 2A of Evin Prison- the IRGC’s intelligence ward.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Sunday, December 13th, the political prisoners of Qarchak prison in Varamin were beaten by the prison anti-riot guards. The beating was ordered by Soghra Khodadadi, the new head of the Qarchak women’s ward.
“Since Soghra Khodadadi’s appointment as the new head of Qarchak prison in Varamin, mistreatments and restrictions against female political prisoners have intensified,” said an informed source. “Khodadadi has ordered that all prisoners must wear uniforms and that they should all wear Chador in prison. On Sunday, she personally entered the ward and shouted: ‘I will scatter you all.’ She tried to transfer Saba Kordafshari, Maryam Ebrahimvand and Mojgan Keshavarz to Ward 6, but this was not done as the prisoners resisted and refused to obey her order. And in response to their resistance against being moved to another ward which in fact, was contrary to the principle of segregation of crimes, Khodadadi ordered the beating of all prisoners,” the source added.
The informed source continued: “As a result of the beating, Saba Kordafshari, Soheila Hijab and Maryam Ebrahimvand were severely injured. In addition, by the order of Khodadi, the agents pulled Golrokh Ebrahimi from her hair and took her out of the ward by dragging her to the ground. No medical care was provided for the other injured prisoners.”
It is noteworthy that along with mother prisoners and their children, the political prisoners in Qarchak Prison are currently being held in Ward 8, known as the Mothers’ Ward. However, citing the charges of political prisoners and under the pretext of segregation of crimes, prison officials are going to disperse these prisoners to the different wards of the prison.
It should also be mentioned that Ms. Golrokh Ebrahimi was arrested and transferred to Qarchak Prison on November 19, 2019, to serve her two-year and one-month prison sentence in a case which had been opened against her while imprisoned.
