Breathing in Confinement: On the morning of Wednesday, June 10, 2020, a death sentence was carried out in Naqadeh Prison. The executed prisoner had been arrested four years ago on charges of murder and was later sentenced to death,

A prisoner who unintentionally killed one of his friends, Khaled Nezakat, in 2016, was executed in Naqadeh Prison on June 10, 2020, reported Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran.

In 2016, the prisoner, Rahim Yousefi, 40, from Soghanlu village in Piranshahr, appeared in the police station, to confess to murdering his friend.

Yousefi was eventually sentenced to death for premeditated murder, and his sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.

Two days efforts of the civil society activists to obtain Nezakat family’s consent remained unsuccessful, and on June 10, the prisoner was executed in Naqadeh prison.

It is noteworthy that Iran ranks first in the world in terms of per capita execution.

According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iranian, the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran implemented at least 274 death sentences in 2019.
