Seven Baloch prisoners were executed in Zahedan and Zabul prisons

Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, July 23, 2022, 7 Baloch prisoners sentenced to death on the charge of “murder” and “drug related crimes” were hanged in Zahedan and Zabul prisons.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Saturday, July 23, 2022, 4 Baloch prisoners were executed in Zabul prison and 3 in Zahedan prison.
The executed prisoners have been identified as Shaukat Shahbakhsh, 38, Farhad Kuhkan from Zabul, Dawood Amirzadeh (Gergij), Hamid Jahangard (Shahbakhsh), Habib Totazehi, Ismail Naroei from Zabul, and Khaled Peraki.
On July 21, 2022, in order to be executed, Shaukat Shahbakhsh, Farhad Kuhkan, Dawood Amirzadeh Gergij, Hamid Jahangard Shahbakhsh and Habib Totazehi had been transferred from general wards in Zahedan and Zabul central prisons to solitary confinement .
Shaukat Shahbakhsh, son of Abdul Hakim, born in 1984, was from Golchah village in Zahedan. He was married and had children. Shaukat along with Musa Shahbakhsh had been sentenced to death by the 1st branch of Zahedan Revolutionary Court in 2016, on the charge of transporting and possessing narcotics. Musa Shah Bakhsh’s death sentence was executed on October 18, 2021 in Zahedan Central Prison.
Farhad Kuhkan, from Zabul, had been arrested on drug related charges in 2019, and was later sentenced to death. Dawood Amirzadeh Gergij, resident of Zahedan, son of Zahir, born in 1987, father of five, had been arrested in 2020, on drug related charges and was later sentenced to death. Hamid Jahangard Shahbakhsh, from Zahedan, had been arrested in 2018, also on drug related charges and was finally sentenced to death.
Habib Totazehi, from Zabul, son of Abdul Karim, had been arrested and sentenced to death in 2018, on charge of murder.
Ismail Naroei had been arrested on Zahedan-Mashhad Road in 2019, on charge of transporting drugs. Khaled Peraki was also arrested in 2016, on charge of murder in a clan dispute in Saravan. On the same day, a prisoner named Iman Sabzikar was also executed for murdering a policeman in Shiraz. Therefore, the total number of executed prisoners reached 8.
According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the period between May 20 to June 20, 2022, at least 101 prisoners were executed in Iran which shows an unprecedented increase compared to the past few years.
