Breathing in Confinement: On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, 11 prisoners were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, 11 prisoners were hanged in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.

 

Six of the executed prisoners have been identified as Mohammad Shokri, 25, Ali Gholami, 24, Abbas Eskandarzadeh, Amir Jafari, Jamshid Akbari and Awad Mohammadi. The executed prisoners had been charged with “murder or armed robbery.”

 

The reporter of “Breathing in Confinement” quoting an informed source said: “These prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement for execution in a group of 12 people, but at the very last moments one of them managed to get a respite from the victim’s parents.

 

Over the past month, more than 100 prisoners have been executed in various prisons across the country.

The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran expresses its deep concern about the human rights situation in Iranian prisons and calls on all human rights entities, especially the United Nations Human Rights Council, to take immediate action to prevent the executions in Iran.

 

As of this writing, the execution of these prisoners has yet to be announced by the state media or official sources.

 

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 383 prisoners were executed during the past Persian Year (March 20, 2021 – March 20, 2022), of which only 34 were reported by the state media, and the rest were carried out in secret.
