Breathing in a Confinement: Two prisoners, sentenced to death for the charge of “Moharebeh through armed robbery” were hanged at dawn on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in Karaj Central Prison.

According to “Breathing in a Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, two prisoners were executed in Karaj Central Penitentiary on the charge of “Moharebeh through armed robbery”.

The two prisoners have been identified as Mohammad Hatami and Farzad Garavand. To be executed, they had been transferred to solitary confinement on July 7, 2022.

An informed source regarding Mohammad Hatami’s case said: “As Mohammad Hatami was innocent, his family tried hard to stop the execution. However, the authorities had made the suspension of the sentence subject to a letter from Khamenei’s office. And as there was no such a letter, Farzad Garavand and Mohammad Hatami were executed.”

The source added: “Mohammed Hatami had no role in the shooting. But the judges issued the sentence based on the shooting, as well as terror and intimidation. They said that if the bullet had hit a citizen, the result would have been their death. They therefore, concluded that the action of Mohammad Hatami and Farzad Garavand was an attempt to kill.”

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Fazli Harikandi, the Chief Justice of Alborz province, announced the execution of 2 prisoners accused of “Moharebeh through armed robbery”. He said that the prisoners had robbed a gold shop on August 15, 2021.
