Breathing in Confinement: After spending 20 years in prison, a 42-year-old prisoner named Abbas Gholi Salehi, who had been sentenced to death for drug offenses, was executed on the morning of September 29, 2021.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the morning of September 29, 2021, Abbas Gholi Salehi, a prisoner charged with drug offenses, was executed in Isfahan Prison after spending 20 years in prison. To serve his death sentence, he had been transferred to solitary confinement on Tuesday, September 28.
Last night, the prisoner’s family and acquaintances gathered in front of Isfahan Prison to pay their last visit and also to protest his execution. The prisoner was 22 years old at the time of his arrest.
According to international statistics, Iran has the highest rate of executions in the world per capita. The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, condemning the execution of Abbas Gholi Salehi, calls on international organizations and human rights entities to take immediate action to prevent further executions in Iran. International bodies must use the entire capacity of the countries to stop the death penalty in Iran.
