Execution of at least 3 prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj

Breathing in Confinement, December 20, 2020: At least three prisoners sentenced to death on murder charges in separate cases, were executed on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
According to Rokna news agency, a young boy shot dead his older brother in a fruit shop in Tehran’s bazaar on August 13, 2013, and was arrested by witnesses at the scene.
“My brother and I grew up together and liked each other since childhood, but after my father died, our dispute over the inherited house started,” the report quoted the young man named Mehdi. Mehdi added: “our argument escalated, and on the day of the incident, I got into a fight with my brother, who had a shop next to me, and at one point I shot him.”
According to his own confession, Mehdi received a death sentence by Branch 113 of Tehran Criminal Court.
As per the report, this prisoner was once about to be hanged in 2016, but the execution was postponed after he got a respite from his family. He however, was finally executed on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, after his family members refused to pardon him.
Another executed prisoner named Arastu, was charged on killing his landlord in 2016.
After his arrest, Arastu confessed to the murder of his landlord, named Farhad. The case was tried in Branch 11 of Tehran Criminal Court. And as the blood owners asked for retribution, the defendant was sentenced to death, and the sentence was upheld by Branch 9 of the Supreme Court.
The third prisoner named Meysam, had been charged on killing his wife and his child on November 24, 2015. Afterward, he once attempted an unsuccessful suicide. Finally, Meysam, based on his own confession and the request of complainants for retribution, was sentenced to death by Branch 10 of Tehran Criminal Court and the sentence was upheld by Branch 31 of the Supreme Court.
In the recent weeks, at least seven prisoners have been executed in various Iranian prisons in Iran.
