According to the reports obtained by Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (PRLI), at least 6 Arab prisoners have been executed in the Central Prison of Ahwaz on November 8, 2018. Some sources have reported the execution of 22 prisoners in total.
A local human rights activist confirmed this report in a conversation with PRLI’s reporter and said: “Ministry of Intelligence had already announced arresting 22 men on September 24, 2018 and 2 days after an assault on a military parade in Ahwaz.”
Six executed prisoners have been identified so far and their names are: Mohammad Momeni (Silavi) and his two sons Nesar Mohammad Momeni and Osame Mohammad Momeni (Silavi), Ahmad Aboud Heydari, Hatam Savari and Ahmad Abdolali Sari.
It is not clear whether these prisoners had access to a lawyer or not and in which court and on which charges were they sentenced to death.
According to local sources the authorities of the Intelligence Ministry in Ahwaz have contacted the families of these prisoners today and given them their death certificates. However the bodies were not delivered to the families.
The families have been threatened to “keep silent” about these executions.
It is worth mentioning that after the assault on a military parade in the Ahwaz city on September 22, 2018, the forces of Ministry of Intelligence and IRGC have arrested hundreds of Arab civilians across Khuzestan province. Some human rights activists told PRLI that more than 800 people had been arrested ever since.
