Breathing in Confinement: On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at least one prisoner sentenced to death on drug-related charges was transferred to solitary confinement in Tabriz Prison in preparation for execution.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner has been moved to solitary confinement ahead of execution. The identity of this prisoner, Morteza Pashaei, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
Morteza Pashaei, a 34-year-old from Tabriz, was previously arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. The execution is scheduled to take place tomorrow in Tabriz Prison.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
