Breathing in Confinement – Seventh Branch of Tehran Province Criminal Court number 1, sentenced three defendants to a sum of 374 lashes.

According to Khorasan daily, three defendants in Tehran were sentenced to a total of 374 lashes.

The case was opened when a young boy named Mahyar, filed a complaint in Pakdasht police station.  He complained against two young boys named Amin and Shahin, and a teenage boy named Barbad.

“I knew Barbad for a while and we were friends. I was in the street yesterday when Barbad along with two young boys whom I knew, asked me to go somewhere with them. Barbad and Amin took me on their motorcycle, while Shahin, driving his own motorbike, was following us. They took me to the suburb of Pakdasht, where they threatened and assaulted me. ” said Mahyar

After obtaining his statement, Mahyar was referred to the forensic office, where the experts confirmed that he was a victim of an assault. The three defendants then were arrested and tried at Branch 7 of Tehran Province Criminal Court number 1, presided over by Judge Kaykhah.  Where they charged with “kidnapping”, “sexual harassment” and stealing Mahyar’s cellphone.

At the end of the hearing, the judges sentenced Amin to 15 years in prison for kidnapping,  in addition to 7 years in prison as well as 74 lashes for robbery. Shahin was also sentenced to 15 years in prison. Barbad however,  because of being an under legal age adolescent, was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Furthermore, the three defendants, having charged with sexual assault,  were each sentenced to 100 lashes.

The case was referred to the Supreme Court, where Amin and Barbad’s sentences were upheld.  While Shahin was rebutted.
