Unawareness of the situation of Alireza Toumar one of the detainees of the November uprising

Breathing in Confinement – On November 16, 2019, in the nationwide demonstrations, Alireza Toumar has been detained at Vanak Square in Tehran but there has been no information on his status since.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Alireza Toumar, an artist and a photographer, being arrested on November 16, 2019,  at Vanak Square in Tehran, has been transferred to an unknown location. After 70 days, there is still no information on his whereabouts, his status, and his health condition as well as his detainers.

“The security forces, making false promises to release Alireza and to inform his family on his whereabouts, have threatened Mr. Toumar’s family and have warned them not to release any news about their son. After seventy days, however, there has been no news yet on his situation and even his family doesn’t know where he is being kept.” said an informed source.

Of note, Reuters news agency reported that more than 1500 were killed in the nationwide uprising in November. Islamic Republic authorities also said that more than 7,000 people were arrested in the first two days of demonstrations. The identities, charges, situations, and whereabouts of the detainees are yet to be announced.
