After eight years in prison, Latif Hassani’s sentence reduced to six years

Breathing in Confinement: On January 13, 2021, having completed his prison sentence, the political prisoner Latif Hassani, was released from Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. The Revolutionary Court had issued a nine-year prison sentence for the Turkish activist Latif Hassani, on charges of forming an illegal group. And according to Article 134 of the Constitution, eight years of his sentence was enforceable.
According to “Breathing in Confinement “, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on January 13, after nearly 8 years of imprisonment, Latif Hassani was released from Rajai Shahr prison.
Latif Hassani, along with four other Turkish (Azerbaijani) activists, Mahmoud Fazli, Shahram Radmehr, Ayat Mehr Ali Biglou, and Behbood Gholizadeh, was arrested in February 2013, and on charges such as “establishing an illegal group to act against National Security” was sentenced to 9 years in prison by the East Azarbaijan Court of Appeals. As per the Article 134 of Islamic Penal Code, 8 years of imprisonment was applicable to him. On January 13, while he only had one month of his sentence left, Mr. Hassani’s sentence was reduced to 6 years and 6 months.
