Breathing in Confinement: Farhad Salmanpour Zahir, a political prisoner in Greater Tehran Prison, is in a very critical situation while his request for bail reduction and being granted a furlough has been denied.

According to Breathing in Confinement, news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Farhad Salmanpour Zahir imprisoned in Greater Tehran Prison, is suffering from a lung infection, while the officials and the prosecutor have so far rejected his request for leave and treatment.

In the coronavirus virus outbreak, the prisoners are in very worrisome circumstances and so far no serious action has been taken to improve their condition, to release them or to give them leave. And the political prisoners, in particular, have been even more widely neglected. The news received from inside the prison indicates that the virus has spread in Greater Tehran Penitentiary and a number of prisoners have been infected with corona. The fact that makes Mr. Salmanpour’s family more concerned over his condition.

“Mr. Salmanpour has requested a reduction in the bail of one billion tomans, which is yet to be approved by the prosecutor. And he is still being held in jail despite his illness and his poor medical condition, while he needs to be treated immediately,” an informed source told the Breathing in Confinement reporter.

It should be noted that Farhad Salmanpour Zahir was arrested by the security forces on August 21, 2019. He was tried by Samad Hadipoor in Branch 3 of Evin Security Prosecutor’s Office and for the charges of “assisting Saeed Malekpour to escape”, “gathering and colluding against the government”, “propaganda activities against the regime” and “publishing classified information files” was returned back to Evin Prison on a bail of 1 billion tomans. He has recently been transferred to the Greater Tehran Prison.
