Fariba Adelkhah was sentenced to 6 years in prison

Breathing in Confinement: Fariba Adelkhah, a dual-national prisoner in Evin Prison, was sentenced to six years in prison by Tehran Revolutionary Court

Saeed Dehghan, Fariba Adelkhah’s lawyer, announcing the news on his Twitter page, wrote that Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court has sentenced his client to five years in prison on charge of collusion and conspiracy against the national security, and to one year in prison on charge of propaganda against the regime, reported Breathing in Confinement, The news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran. Mr. Dehghan stated that the verdict was preliminary and that they would appeal the verdict in due time.

According to a ruling issued by Branch 15 of Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, Fariba Adelkhah has been sentenced to six years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “gathering and collusion against the security of the country.”

 

According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, in case that the sentence be upheld on appeal court, the maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment will be enforceable for “conspiracy and collusion against the security of the country”.

 

Gabriel Marshall’s name also has been mentioned in the sentence, but no sentence has been issued for him, reported Saeed Dehghan, Ms. Adelkhah’s lawyer.

 

Ms. Adelkha’s court hearing had been held on Sunday, April 19, at Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

 

Earlier, Saeed Dehghan had announced Ms. Adelkhah’s acquittal of charges of espionage and disturbing the public mind.  Mr. Dehghan however, added that concurrently with her last defense at a three and a half-hour hearing session at Branch 1 of Shahid Moqaddas Security Court in Evin Prison, three more charges were added to Ms. Adelkhah’s case. And given the approval of the prosecutor’s office, the indictment goes to the Revolutionary Court with two charges of “gathering and colluding with intent to act against the security of the country” and “propaganda against the regime.”
