Fifty five lashes for a prisoner in Tehran

Breathing in Confinement – A prisoner who was convicted of complicity in murder and robbery, along with his other punishments, was sentenced to fifty-five lashes.
According to Tabnak website, a prisoner in Tehran in addition to 5 years and 6 months imprisonment, was sentenced to fifty-five lashes.
According to the report, Tehran’s police opened this case on March 26, 2013, following the murder of a 35-year-old woman who was living alone. Based on the police investigation, a suspect of murder named Hamid along with a suspect of murder complicity and robbery named Abbas were arrested and tried. According to the defendants, these young men were the victim’s acquaintances and were visiting her at her home as guests. However, during an argument, the victim started shouting and Hamid killed her.
“We did not really intend to kill that woman,” Abbas stated in court. Her shouts and screams scared us and made us to make a wrong decision. And I stole Parvin’s cell-phone just to make the police unable to trace us. ”
At the request of the victim’s next of kins, the court Judges sentenced Hamid to death for “murder” and Abbas to imprisonment for “complicity in murder and robbery”. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court. Hamid’s family members, however, managed to come to a settlement with the victim’s relatives.
