Hamid Babai released from Evin prison after serving his sentence

Breathing in Confinement – Hamid Babai, imprisoned student was released from Evin prison some hours ago.

According to the reports obtained by Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (PRLI), Hamid Babai was released from Evin prison on 6 August 2019 after serving his sentence.

He had served his term in Rajai Shahr prison of Karaj and Evin prison of Tehran.

Hamid Babai was graduated in mathematic from Sharif University of Technology in 2006 and started his studies in the master of Industrial Engineering in Iran Science and Industry University at the same year.

Later, he continued his studies in Belgium.

After returning to Iran he was summoned by the Ministry of Intelligence on 13 August 2013 and arrested and later sentenced to 6 years imprisonment and 4 years of suspended imprisonment on charges of espionage and contact with hostile governments. The sentence was confirmed by branch 54 of appeal court.

According to the close people to Hamid Babai, he had had no political activities during his studies abroad and was arrested and sentenced only because of refusing to cooperate with the Ministry of Intelligence.
