Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, February 11, 2023, Khaled Pirzadeh, a political prisoner, was released from Sheiban prison in Ahvaz.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League, in Iran on Saturday, February 11, Khaled Pirzadeh was released from Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.
Khaled Pirzadeh had previously been sentenced to 7 years in prison. Khaled who was sick was denied medical care during his imprisonment and lost tens of kilograms of his weight.
On May 26, 2019, Khaled Pirzadeh after being beaten, was arrested by the security forces and later , after the completion of his interrogation, was transferred to Evin prison. In February of the following year, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran presided over by Judge Mohammad Moghiseh, for the charge of assembly and collusion, and to 2 years in prison for insulting the Supreme Leader, a total of 7 years. The sentence was later upheld in June 2020 by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal of Tehran Province headed by Judge Ahmad Zargar. Therefore, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the harshest punishment, i.e. 5 years of imprisonment, was applicable to Mr. Pirzadeh for the charge of assembly and collusion.
On July 22, 2020, Mr. Pirzadeh was transferred from Evin prison to Tehran prison. It is said that he was beaten by the special guards of Evin prison during his transfer.
He underwent surgery on his leg in August 2021. His legs and vertebrae were seriously injured during detention and he needs more surgeries and physical therapy. On July 14, 2021, Mr. Pirzadeh was released from the quarantine of Greater Tehran Prison and finally transferred to Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.
