Breathing in Confinement: Mahmoud Behzadi Rad, lawyer of Nazanin Zagheri- a British citizen, and Narges Mohammadi- Deputy Director of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre (DHRC), said the prosecution has rejected his client’s request for parole and furlough. In an interview with IRNA, he said that his clients are legally subject to parole, but the prosecution has rejected the request.
Mrs. Mohammadi’s lawyer had earlier said that his client, having served almost seven years of her sentence was subject to parole.
According to Mr. Behzadi Rad, Narges Mohammadi was about to be granted a furlough and the Ministry of Intelligence also had agreed to this. The prosecution, however, impeded her release.
Nazanin Zaghari and Narges Mohammadi had gone on a 3 days hunger strike on Monday, January 14, 2019. During the hunger strike and in protest against Mrs. Zagari’s situation, the British Foreign Office summoned Hamid Baidinejad Iran’s ambassador to London.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry, however, denied the reports.
