Rajai Shahr Prison; Abolhassan Montazer is in critical condition while his forensic file is missing

Breathing in Confinement: Abolhassan Montazer, a political prisoner in Rajai Shahr Prison, is being held in critical condition with no medical care. He suffers from several incurable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, bone lesion in his spine, as well as a skin disease named psoriasis. However, his forensic record, which states his inability to serve his sentence, is missing. Abolhassan Montazer, with a history of political imprisonment in the 1980s, has been sentenced to five years in prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Abolhassan Montazer, a political prisoner in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, is being held in critical condition with various incurable diseases, without receiving any medical care.
As per the report, Abolhassan Montazer suffers from a skin condition called psoriasis, a disease which must be controlled with medication and chemotherapy, while his medication is not available in prison. And since after the transfer to prison his treatment has been stopped, his physical condition has deteriorated.
In addition, the 60-year-old political prisoner, according to his doctor, needs surgery due to the growth of excess bones on both sides of his neck spine. Mr. Montazer also suffers from kidney stones in both kidneys which need immediate laser surgery.
According to an informed source, in addition to the above-mentioned diseases, “Mr. Montazer also suffers from heart failure with only 35% of his heart muscles are active. He had previously undergone open-heart surgery, but in prison, his ribs were damaged due to a trauma to his chest inflicted by security agents.”
The source added: “Currently, because of his history of open-heart surgery, the presence of stitches, and dislocations of his ribs, Mr. Montazer suffers a lot of pain to the point that he moans during sleep when he changes his position.” “In addition, he has diabetes and needs insulin injections every 12 hours,” the source added.
The general condition of this political prisoner is reported to be very poor, so that he is often completely lethargic and semi-conscious in prison. Because of his illnesses, he is unable to use prison food, and due to the lack of adequate facilities, it is not possible for him to prepare appropriate food.
Abolhassan Montazer, a political prisoner in Evin Prison, was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on November 9, 2021. The 61-year-old political prisoner had been arrested in 2018, and after completing his interrogation, was released on bail awaiting the trial. He was eventually sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime as well as having links to an opposition group.”
He was arrested in November 2020 to serve his sentence and transferred to Evin Prison. Abolhassan Montazer is one of the political prisoners of the 1980s.
