Breathing in Confinement: On February 22, 2022, Peyman Gholami, a political prisoner detained in Ward 8 of Evin Prison and one of the detainees of the November 2019 protests, was transferred to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran after contracting CVD-19 and because of his deteriorating condition. He was transferred to the intensive care unit due to a drop in his blood oxygen level.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on February 22, 2022, Peyman Gholami, a political prisoner imprisoned in Evin Prison and one of the detainees of November 2019 protests, was transferred to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran after contracting Covid-19 and when his condition deteriorated following being denied medical care in prison. He was transferred to the intensive care unit due to a drop in his blood oxygen level.

 

According to the reports, several political prisoners, including Payam Shakiba and Saeed Samimi, despite having suspected symptoms of Covid-19, have been denied medical care and even have not been tested for the disease. In addition, Reza Mazaheri has been tested positive for Covid-19, but he also has not received any medical treatment.

 

Peyman Gholami, one of the detainees of November 2019 protests, was initially sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to eight years in prison on charge of “gathering and colluding to act against national security,” and his sentence, was later reduced to five years in prison by the Court of Appeals.
