Soheila Hijab goes on leave from Qarchak prison in Varamin

Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, August 14, the political prisoner Soheila Hijab, was sent on a 7 day leave from Qarchak Prison in Varamin. The imprisoned lawyer Soheila Hijab, has been serving her five-year sentence in Qarchak prison in Varamin since June 2020.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the imprisoned lawyer Soheila Hijab, was sent on leave from Qarchak prison in Varamin.
Ms. Hijab was previously sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Moghiseh, on charges of “propaganda, collaborating and collusion against the regime, disturbing public minds with the intent to create chaos as well as forming an illegal group.” Her sentence was later upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals in Tehran, presided over by Judge Ahmad Zargar. Pursuant to Article 134, 5 years of this sentence is enforceable.
In December 2020, Soheila Hijab was tried again in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, over a new case filed against her while in prison. The content of her phone conversations to outside the prison which have been posted on social media were considered as evidence against her.
