Breathing in Confinement: The political prisoner, Adel Kianpour died after a week of hunger strike in Sheiban prison in Ahvaz. Adel Kianpour had been on a hunger strike since December 25, 2021, in protest of the judicial process of his case. So far, no judicial official in the Islamic Republic has commented on the death of this political prisoner.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Saturday, January 1, 2022, the political prisoner, Adel Kianpour, died in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz for unknown reasons. Mr. Kianpour had been on hunger strike since December 25, 2021, in protest of the judicial process of his case.

 

Concurrently with the announcement of his hunger strike, in an audio file he had released from prison, Mr. Kianpour had addressed the head of the judiciary, Mohseni Ejei, andcomplained about being imprisoned after returning to Iran.

 

In August 2020, Adel Kianpour had been arrested by security forces in Ahvaz and transferred to the detention center of the city’s intelligence department. During interrogation, he was denied access to a lawyer.

 

Political prisoner, Adel Kianpour had been sentenced to a total of three years in prison on charge of “propaganda against the regime” as well as “disordering the public opinion with the intent to disrupt national security”.

 

In October this year, Mr. Kianpour had caught coronavirus without being provided with any medical care by prison authorities.
