Breathing in Confinement: The UN Human Rights Council released a statement calling for a full and transparent investigation into the death of Behnam Mahjoubi.

The organization emphasized that the death of Mahjoubi reveals that Iranian prisoners are repeatedly denied medical treatment and demanded immediate access of all prisoners to medical treatment

Behnam Mahjoubi, a Gonabadi dervish prisoner, was transferred from Evin Prison to hospital on Saturday, February 13, with the diagnosis of drug poisoning, and died on Sunday, February 21, at Loghman Hospital in Tehran.

Security agents took Mr. Mahjoubi’s body to his hometown in Kerman where he was buried on February 22 under strict security measures. Although Mr. Mahjoubi’s family members, particularly his mother, as the blood owner, had requested an autopsy to determine the cause of his death and demanded that the body be buried only after a forensic report.
