Yousef Salahshour sentenced to 1 year in prison as well as some additional punishments

Breathing in Confinement: Yousef Salahshour, an activist living in Tabriz, was sentenced by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz to 1 year in prison and supplementary punishments of 2 years ban on leaving the country as well as 2 years ban on activities on the social media.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Yousef Salahshour, an activist from Tabriz, was sentenced by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz to one year in prison and supplementary punishments of 2 years ban on leaving the country as well as 2 years ban on activities on the social media on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”

 

The trial of Yousef Salahshour for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran on social media” was held on October 3, 2021, in Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz, presided over by Judge Hossein Fathnejad, and the verdict was verbally notified to Asghar Mohammadi, Mr. Salahshour’s lawyer.

 

Earlier, Branch 36 of the East Azarbaijan Court of Appeals, headed by Judge Ali Ahmadi and Ahmad Ali Mohammadi as an adviser, had acquitted Mr. Salahshour of the charges of ” inciting and inviting people to commit acts of violence on social media as well as disrupting Public order through commotion and illegal gatherings.” In connection with abovementioned charges, Branch 111 of the Tabriz Criminal Court, had sentenced Mr. Salahshour to fine payment as well as 37 lashes.

 

Yousef Salahshour was arrested by the security forces on July 25, 2021, and later on August 11, on completion of his interrogations, he was transferred from the detention center of the Tabriz Intelligence Office to the city’s central prison. He was finally released from Tabriz Central Prison on bail, on August 14, awaiting the trial.

 

He had previously been charged with “propaganda against the regime and disturbing public order” by Branch 15 of the Tabriz Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office.
