Breathing in Confinement: On Friday, October 15, 2021, a soldier in the naval barracks in Rasht, shot himself and lost his life.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a soldier named Mohammad Jamali, while guarding the barracks, shot himself and died. He had spent 17 months of his military service.
Compulsory military service in Iran has caused a great amount of physical and psychological harm to young men. The discrimination in granting exemption from the service also has increased the pressure on families.
