Breathing in Confinement: The political prisoner Saeed Masouri, in his 21st year of imprisonment, wrote a letter on the occasion of the presidential election in Iran.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Saeed Masouri, one of the most long-standing political prisoners, wrote a letter on the occasion of the presidential election in Iran.

The full text of his letter is as follows:

إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یَکْفُرُونَ بِآیَاتِ اللَّهِ وَیَقْتُلُونَ النَّبِیِّینَ بِغَیْرِ حَقٍّ وَیَقْتُلُونَ الَّذِینَ یَأْمُرُونَ بِالْقِسْطِ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِیمٍ.

(Al-e-Imran 21)

The reason why “my vote is overthrowing the regime” has become the word of the Iranian people, can be asked from those who are suffering from poverty, those who do not have even bread to eat, the working children who seek their food in garbage cans, the unsheltered people who sleep in empty graves,  the youth who are not even permitted to choose their clothing, let alone their way of living, the mothers whose children in November 2019, were killed in the streets of the cities and in the reeds of Mahshar, the families of the passengers of the Ukrainian plane and the families of those who died because of Covid-19, as a result of the government’s incompetence and its deliberate effort to ban the important of vaccine, and all political prisoners and their families, and finally, ask me, who has spent 21 years in prison for supporting the People Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI). …. The same Mujahids who since June 1981, have been emphasizing that the regime was irreformable. Those who did not scare of being killed, tortured or incarcerated in 1980s’ prisons. The Mujahids who were not deceived by those who introduced Rafsanjani as a technocrate cleric and Khatami as a reformist cleric. The Mujahids who from the beginning called Rouhani a fraudulent cleric (something which is now known by everyone).

Yes, for many years, the dirty game of fundamentalist-reformist, has shed the blood of thousands of young Iranians on the streets; mutilated their bodies in the prisons and the so-called safe houses; and in the streets has thrown acid on girls’ faces because of wearing a “bad hijab”; and has plunged our youth into poverty, unemployment and hopelessness; and has made our innocent children to search their food in garbage dumps outside the cities…

Each time, they advise people to be satisfied with what exists, and choose “bad” over the “worse” in order not to make the situation worse than what it currently is. These are said only to prevent people from demanding their rights which are freedom and democracy.

It is so strange that the situation has come to the point that the government’s optimum candidate is Raeisi who according to Holy Quran is not only the murderer of Iranian people but the murderer of the prophets (as according to the above verse from Holy Quran, killing people who seek justice is as killing the prophets).

And, of course, it is a matter of pride that our compatriots have reached the level of awareness to chant “My vote is overthrowing the regime”. Because the phrases like “No to the Islamic Republic” (as if the regime has ever been republic or Islamic), or “I do not vote”, “I don’t care” and “I do not participate,” etc., are being said in public even by people like Ahmadinejad. The people, however, are demanding their real rights which are freedom and the ability to determine their fate, and above all is chanting “my vote is overthrowing the regime”.

Viva freedom!

Viva the resistance of the Iranian people!
