At the end of her leave period, Saba Kordafshari returns to Qarchak prison in Varamin

Breathing in Confinement: Saba Kordafshari, a civil activist and opponent of the compulsory hijab, returned to Qarchak prison in Varamin on Saturday, August 28, 2021, by the end of her leave. Rahela Ahmadi, Saba’s mother also, had previously returned to Evin Prison on August 24, at the end of her leave.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Saba Kordafshari, a civil activist and one of the activists against the compulsory hijab, returned to Qarchak prison in Varamin on Saturday, August 28, 2021, after completing her leave period. She was sent on leave from Qarchak prison on Wednesday, August 11th.

 

Saba Kordafshari a civil activist, and opponent of the compulsory hijab, was arrested for the first time on June 1, 2019. Three months after her release, she was re-arrested by security forces at her home and transferred to prison after completion of her interrogation. Finally, on August 27, 2019, in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Iman Afshari, she was sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison along with other social deprivations on charges of “spreading immorality and depravity through removing hijab and walking unveiled,” “propaganda activities against the regime,” as well as ” conspiracy and colluding to commit a crime against the security of the country.” Due to the multiplicity of her crimes and having a previous record, her sentences increased by 50%, which eventually resulted in a sentence of 15 years in prison, as her most severe sentence. Finally, with the application of the law on reduction of punishments, 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment was enforceable on her.

 

Rahela Ahmadi, Saba Kordafshari’s mother, was also arrested and interrogated for supporting her daughter. She was arrested on Saturday, February 15, 2020, after appearing in Branch 3 of the Evin Prison Prosecutor’s Office, and was sent to Evin Prison to serve her sentence of 31 months in prison. Mrs. Ahmadi returned to Evin Prison on August 24 after completing her leave.
