Continuing pressures on Navid Afkari’s family; Detention of his father and brother for several hours

Breathing in Confinement, December 17, 2020: Today, Hossein Afkari, the father of the executed wrestler, Navid Afkari, and Hamid Afkari, Navid’s brother, were arrested at Navid’s grave to be interrogated and threatened by the security agents of the Ministry of Intelligence for several hours.
According to “Breathing in Confinement “, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on December 17, at 10:00 AM, the agents of Ministry of Intelligence arrested Hossein and Hamid Afkari, Navid’s father and brother who were visiting his grave in Sangar village cemetery in Homayjan district in the City of Sepidan.
According to the report, Navid Afkari’s father and brother were cleaning and preparing his grave to install a tombstone, when Ministry of Intelligence agents arrived and confiscated the cellphones of all those present, and arrested Navid’s father and brother and took them away.
Since his execution, Navid Afkari’s family has been under pressure by the security forces not to put a stone on Navid’s tomb. In addition, the family has been unaware of the situation of their two other sons, Vahid and Habib who have been in solitary confinement for more than 100 days.
Navid Afkari was a wrestling champion who on September 12, 2020, was hastily executed in Shiraz prison without any prior notice, disregarding the efforts of human rights activists and the calls from the international community to stop his execution
