Breathing in Confinement: Over 1600 elevator accidents have occurred in the past 6 days in Tehran, due to recurrent power cuts.

 

Jalal Maleki, the spokesman for the Fire Department of Tehran Municipality, said that because of the repeated power cuts, the past six days were “unprecedented in the fire department’s history.” He added that as a result, a large number of citizens were stuck in the elevators.

 

The spokesman for the Fire Department of Tehran Municipality, announced the occurrence of more than 1,600 elevator accidents in the past six days due to the electricity fluctuations and power cuts in the capital city of Tehran.

 

Maleki added that 30 elevator accidents were reported to one of the fire stations near Azadi Square, and 25 incidents to another station in the East of Tehran.

 

Repeated power and water shutdowns in recent weeks have caused many problems for Iranian citizens.

 

With the onset of summer, the situation got even worse, leading to the recent widespread blackouts throughout the country, which provoked protests in various cities.
