Breathing in Confinement: The teacher and guild activist, Mehdi Fathi was arrested on Tuesday, August 14, 2021, in his hometown Pasargad.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mehdi Fathi, a teachers’ guild activist, was arrested on Tuesday, August 14, 2021, in the City of Pasargard.
Mr. Fathi, a teacher with 27 years of experience, received a sentence of fine payment as well as 14 months imprisonment on the court of first instance for exposing the financial misconduct of some local and religious officials in Pasargad. He was arrest while the outcome of his request for a retrial had not yet been announced.
Mehdi Fathi suffers from heart disease and must take medication regularly. “According to his specialist doctor, Mr. Fathi needed a heart surgery soon, and this has raised concerns of his family,” said one of his relatives.
Mr. Fathi was arrested on Friday, February 5, 2021, and transferred to the detention center of the Intelligence Office in Shiraz, known as No. 100, for revealing the corruption of the Friday Imam in Shiraz. He was later temporary released on bail, awaiting the decision of Revolutionary Court in Shiraz, which was later announced to be 14 months in prison as well as fine payment. Mr. Fathi appealed the verdict, but he was arrested on August 14, without a retrial being held.
