Breathing in Confinement: Today, July 6, Yasman Ariani, an objector to compulsory hijab, was sent on leave from Kachuei Prison in Karaj. This political prisoner, was arrested along with her mother, on April 10, 2019, following their protest against the compulsory hijab. Yasaman was later sentenced to 9 years and 7 months in prison, of which a maximum punishment of 5 years and 6 months in prison will be enforceable.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, today, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, Yasman Ariani was sent on a 7-day leave.

 

Yasman Ariani was arrested on April 10, 2019 and transferred to Vozara Detention Center in Tehran. She and her mother, Monireh Arabshahi, who also was arrested a day after her daughter, were transferred to Ward 5 of Qarchak Prison in Varamin. They finally, were transferred from Qarchak prison to the women’s ward of Evin prison on August 13, 2019.

 

Yasman Ariani and her mother were tried in August 2019 at Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Mohammad Moghiseh. Yasaman and her mother, Monireh Arabshahi, were charged with “conspiracy to act against national security, propaganda activities against the regime, as well as inciting the others to depravity and debauchery.” They each therefore, were sentenced to a total of 9 years and 7 months in prison, of which 5 years and six months will be enforceable as the most severe punishment, according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code.

 

On October 21, 2020, Miss. Ariani along with her mother, was transferred from the women’s ward of Evin Prison to Kachuei Prison in Karaj.
