23 Prisoners Executed in 2 Days

Breathing in Confinement – The number of executed prisoners in two days reached to 23 after execution of 10 people in four jails of the country.

According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, human rights sources have announced that on May 17 and 18, 5 prisoners in Tabriz prison and 2 prisoners in Urmia prison were hanged. State-run sources also have announced the execution of 1 prisoner in the prison of Sary and 2 executions in Yasouj prison. Also there are different reports about the number of people who were hanged in the prison of Yazd.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network has announced the execution of five prisoners in Tabriz Central Prison on two occasions. According to the report; on Tuesday May 17, three prisoners identified as Rahim Khodayari, Ramin Imani and Sohrab Sharbatieh, charged with first-degree murder, and on May 18, two prisoners, Yaghob Jahed and Seyed Jalal Abedi,  charged with drug-related crimes, were executed in the prison.

The source also announced the execution of two prisoners named Dariush Farajzadeh and Ghafoor Ghaderzadeh (from wards 3 and 4) in Urmia Central Prison.

According to the Public Relations Department of Judiciary of Mazandaran Province, the death sentence of a prisoner, identified as “S. R.”, 31, son of Mohammad Reza, was implemented in the central prison of Sary, on May 18.

According to the prosecutor of Yasouj also, two 26-and-34-year-old men have been executed in Yasouj central prison on charge of rape.

On the other hand, while the Department of Public Relations and Information of Judiciary in Yazd has announced that 6 prisoners were executed in the prison of this city on May 17, IRIB news agency quoting the Public Relations Department of Judiciary in Yazd, has announced the number of executed prisoners was 8 people.

However, in Yazd Judiciary’s report all the eight hanged prisoners were alleged by drug offenses, while in the report of the Directorate General of Public Relations and Information of the judiciary, 3 of the defendants were sentenced to death for rape and armed robbery, and only 3 of the defendants had been charged with drug transportation and storage.
