Breathing in the Confinement: On morning of Saturday, November 11, after enduring over 12 years of imprisonment, the death sentence of a Baloch political prisoner, Meysam Chandani (Dehqani), was carried out in Zahedan prison.
According to “Breathing in the Confinement ,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the early morning of Saturday, November 11, 2023, Meysam Chandani (Dehqani), a Baloch political prisoner who had spent more than 12 years in prison, was executed in Zahedan prison.
Meysam Chandani, 32, from Saravan, had been sentenced to death on charges of “acting against national security,” “membership in anti-government groups,” and “waging war against God through armed action.”
Meysam Chandani was arrested on August 28, 2011, during a raid by the intelligence forces of Saravan at his father’s house in the Bakhshan districts of this city. During his detention, he spent a year in solitary confinement in the Ministry of Intelligence’s cells, subjected to severe psychological and physical torture for forced confessions.
On November 7, 2023, Meysam, along with another prisoner, was transferred to the quarantine ward of Zahedan prison for the execution.
The trial and interrogation process of this political prisoner was conducted unfairly while his right to counsel a chosen attorney was denied.
The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, condemning the execution of this political prisoner, calls on all international bodies and human rights organizations to take an immediate action to hold the authorities of the Islamic Republic accountable for the significant increase in executions.
